Why Missions?

The population of the world is over 7 billion people, 2 billion of which have no access to the Gospel. Over 60,000 of them perish daily without having heard the Gospel. That is 24 million people a year! It is estimated that there are 16,000 people groups on earth and over 6,000 of those people groups are unreached with the Gospel of Christ!

We are commanded in scripture to go the ends of the earth and make disciples of the Word of God.

  • And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”   Matt 28:18-20
  • “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”    Acts 1:8
  • This gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.   Matt 24:14

Where Our Missionaries Serve

Trends in Missions Today

  • Multiple church planting movements and methods
  • Countries outside of US are sending more missionaries
  • Increasing nationalization of missionaries
  • Increasing focus on the whole person (spiritual, physical, emotional and social)
  • Churches are becoming increasingly urban as third world countries grow
  • An increasing focus on the unreached people groups of the world
  • Popularity of short-term missions trips is increasing
  • So is the need for long-term missionaries!
  • Giving towards missions (in general) is on a downward trend
  • Niche-focused missions emerging
  • Churches are becoming more “missions-focused” than “missionary-focused”
